“I think the position we have, properly understood, is exactly the position of Canadians."

Stephen Harper Cornwall Ontario Friday Aug 4 2006

Properly understood? Our Prime Minister seems to think Canadians are to stupid to understand.

Speaking of stupid:

Here is the response from my MP, Gord Brown,  Leeds Grenville riding, to the Globe and Mail poll.

Thank you for your e-mail.
I understand the Minister has already seen the article.
As I have mentioned before, we are not in Afghanistan in a combat role. We are there to bring peace and democracy.
Afghanistan has hundreds of years of violent history and we are there in an effort to stop that.
Our troops will respond when attacked however.
Gord Brown

It is amazing (well maybe not) that my MP believes that we are not in a combat role in Afghanistan, even though the mission of our armed forces is "counter-insurgency " as part of the US Operation Enduring Freedom. No wonder that Canadian voters are confused when even the MPs of the ruling political party don't know what our Armed Forces are doing.

Question Authority, American deserters Welcome to Canada!
Afghanistan

Here is an excellent interview with Kathy Gannon, Canadian author and journalist with Associated Press. To understand the current state of affairs in Afghanistan it is important to take a look at how it arrived to this point. Kathy Gannon Interview Download it in MP3 format. It was recorded from CBC Radio Ottawa March 2006.

Buy her book "I is for Infidel" published 2006. The Canadian military and its political masters and advisers would be wise to read her accounts of having lived in Afghanistan for 18 years.

What Are We Doing in Afghanistan?

Like many other Canadians, I am waking up to the seriousness of our part in the "war on terror"
in Afghanistan. Some of the questions for which I and others seek specific answers include the
following:

1. Has the Canadian government accepted the American definition of "War on Terror?"

2. If so, is our government defining what we are doing in Afghanistan as such a war?

3. Again, if so, does that mean that Canada will pursue that war anywhere the US does?

4. What are the objectives of this war:
a) to kill as many Taliban and its allies we consider to be enemies?
b) to bring about a "surrender"? Of whom, and to whom?
c) to reach a ceasefire agreement? with whom?
d) to rehabilitate the political economy of the country?
e) others?

5. Who determines who are the "enemy Taliban",or are they all "enemies", including women and
children?

6. Do the "rules of international war" come into play (humane treatment of prisoners, no torture,
etc.)? If so, who is monitoring this?

7. How should the "war" be terminated?

8. To what extent has the UN sanctioned this "war"? Who, exactly? And has the International Court
had anything to say? Which UN agencies are involved in seeking to resolve it, and what steps are
they taking?

9. What is the other side's formal position on the "war"?

10. Which of all the actions now taking place are "peace-keeping" and which "war making?" Who
makes that definition and the decisions, which follow?

Charactures of Mohamed

Without question, the Islamic leadership is on track with turning Islam into a theology of liberation, replacing the secular socialists, communists and nationalists. Gwynne Dyer writes in the New Edition of WAR that Bin Laden, while highly successful in goading the Americans into aggravating the discontented Islamic majority further by invading Afghanistan and Iraq, has until now not been able and maybe never will, get Muslims by the millions on the street to overthrow their western dependent governments. We'll see. The story of Hamas and its founder Ahmad Yasin (assassinated by Israel) accurately reflects the path by which a religiously motivated movement became the dominant political force - not to mention Iran and Afghanistan.

This interview with Kurt Vonnegut sums up my feelings as to what is happening in the global insane asylum. Follow up questions By Kurt Vonnegut March 6, 2003

March 19 2003

I see some of parallels  between
the Third Reich and the direction in which the US administration is
heading. I see how  George Bush's corporate supporters are getting him as
wrong as Germany's corporations got Hitler. The US corporate elite backs
George Bush because it believes that George Bush is their paid instrument,
serving their purpose, under their direction. The Germany corporate elite
thought the same about Hitler.  For a while this turned out to be true
after Hitler got into power. However, it did not last long. Soon it became
apparent that Hitler was more at home in the mythical world of Richard
Wagner than in the day to day world of Germany's establishment. Hitler's
mythical reality made sense to a sufficiently large section of  the
German people, so he could carry them along. Whatever control the German
corporate elite and the establishment had over Hitler was soon lost in the
rush toward the 1000 Years German Empire.

I wish the peace movement would pay less attention to George Bush's well
known links to corporate interests and pay more attention George Bush's
imaginary world. We could have a greater impact if we were to bring to bear
our keen perception and formidable communication skills on the belief system
and the script which seems to inform George Bush - and large parts of his
administration.

I apologize to the Middle Eastern world for the utter ignorance of our heads of state. They really can't see the damage they are doing to people who have only to lose while they profit from their arms sales and power games. They have no care for humanity only for the organizations to which they belong.

The military and the politicians who support violence as the final arbiter of human affairs are the same people who were supporting Saddam Hussein as he was buying weapons and chemicals during the Iran Iraq war. Niccolo Machiavelli is very much alive and his disciples, for the most, part run our military and government. People who have little to lose as they see the world and its people as their own personal playground and possessions.

The greatest sin is indifference to human suffering. I'm sorry that our government and military leaders are living in some other stratosphere and has lost all concept of the daily grind of life. Here in Canada we have no idea of how over protected we really are by our culture and three oceans.
