March 31, 1928- Born in Floral, Saskatchewan Canada to Katherine Schultz and Albert Clarence Howe. -1940's- November 1, 1945-Signed first professional contract, with Omaha Knights of The United States Hockey League. The name of the team was The Aksarben (Nebraska spelled backwards) Omaha Knights. He played in fifty one games and scored 22 goals, 25 assists and had 53 minutes in penalty minutes. October 8, 1946-Signed first contract with the Detroit Red Wings. October 16, 1946-Scored his first NHL goal, during first NHL game at Detroit against Toronto goaltender Turk Broda at 13.39 of the second period. Howe's sweater number was 17. Game was 3-3 tie. October 19, 1946-Received first NHL assist, on a goal by Adam Brown during a 6-3 loss at Toronto. He also received his first major penalty for fighting with Bill Ezinicki. October 29, 1947-Wore sweater number nine for the first time, during a 5-2 Red Wing victory at Chicago.
-1950's- March 28, 1950- Suffered the most serious injury of his career when he was "accidentally" checked into the boards by Toronto captain Ted Kennedy. Howe received a skull fracture and required surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. January 17, 1951-Scored his 100th regular season goal during a 2-1 victory at Montreal against goaltender Gerry McNeil. The game was designated as a "night" for Maurice Richard. February 15, 1953-Scored the 200th goal of his regular season career against goaltender Al Rollins at 1:04 of the first period during a 4-1 win at Chicago. April 15, 1953-Married Colleen J. Joffa at Calvary Presbyterian Church on Grand River Avenue, Detroit, near the Olympia Stadium. Februray 18, 1954-First son, Marty Gordon Howe, was born. April 1, 1954-Howe scored at the 0:09 mark against netminder Harry Lumley during a semi-final game won by Detroit 4-3 in overtime. It was the fastest goal scored from the start of a playoff game at the time. May 28, 1955-Second son, Mark Steven Howe, born at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital. February 7, 1956-Scored his 300th goal vs. Chicago goalie Al Rollins. 3-2 victory 624th game December 9th, 1956-Scored his 324th goal to tie Nels Stewart NHL goal record. April 23, 1957-Named to Official NHL First All-Star Team for a fifth time and his eighth selection to either team in nine seasons. December 13, 1958-Scored his 400th goal vs. Montreal goalie Jacques Plante.2-2 tie 805th NHL game October 11, 1958-First League game as captain of the Red Wings. February 1st, 1959-Howe had his famous fight with Lou Fontinato after which he was very seldom challeged again. March 3, 1959-Gordie Howe Day-Olympia Stadium March 24, 1959-Third child, a daughter, Cathleen Jill Howe, born at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital.
-1960's- November 27, 1960-Scored his 1,000 point and exactly one year later played in his 1,000 NHL game. September 15, 1960-Son Murray Albert Howe was born. November 27, 1961-1,000 NHL game March 14, 1962-Scored his 500th goal vs. New York Rangers goalie Gump Worsely-1,045th game October 27, 1963-Scored his 544th goal vs. goalie Gump Worsely of the Montreal Canadiens to tie Maurice Richards goal record-1,126th game November 10th, 1963-Scored his 545th goal vs. Charlie Hodge of the Montreal Canadiens to break the NHL goal record.-1,132nd NHL game. This record stood until Wayne Gretzky broke it. November 27th, 1965-Scored his 600th goal vs. Montreal goaltender Gump Worsely. July 22nd, 1966-Gordie Howe Day in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada. February 20, 1967-Howe receives the Lester Patrick Award in the U.S. (award for his service to the game of hockey) December 4th, 1968-Scored his 700th goal vs. goaltender Les Binkley of Pittsburgh. -1970's- April 3rd, 1971-25th Anniversary ceremony Olympia Stadium-Detroit. He scores goal # 786 vs. Tony Esposito of the Chicago Black Hawks. June 25, 1971-Received the Order of Canada Medal of Honour for distinguished service to sports and citizenship. August, 1971-His mother Katherine Howe dies at age 75. September 9th, 1971-Official Retirement Day from NHL after 25 years-1,841 games-853 goals and 1,114 assists. March 12, 1972-Hockey jersey was officially retired in Detroit. Mid 1972-Received President's Cabinet Medallion from The University of Detroit which is presented annually to men who "have achieved international renown". Govenor General Roland Michener of Canada presented Howe with the Canadian Service Medal, Canada's highest civil decoration. He also received the March of Dimes Distinguished Sports-Citizen-of- the-Year award. August 1972-Entered Hockey's Hall of Fame. November 3rd, 1973-Scores first WHA goal-#787. January 17, 1974-Scores his 800th goal vs. Peter Donnelly-Vancouver Blazers. March 27, 1975-Scored his 2,000 professional hockey league point vs. Winnipeg Jets. March 2, 1977-Scored his 900th major league goal. December 7th, 1977-Scores his 1,000th professional goal vs. Birmingham Bulls-John Garrett was the goalie October 11th, 1979-Returned to the NHL after an eight year absence skating for the Hartford Whalers in the club's first ever NHL game. -1980's- April 6th, 1980-Scores his final NHL goal (#801) vs. his old team Detroit Red Wings. June 4th 1980-Retires from Hartford Whalers and professional hockey. February 18, 1981-Gordie Howe day-Hartford. -1990's- October 3, 1997-Played a shift in a game for the Detroit Vipers at the Palace of Auburn Hills making him the only hockey player to play in six decades 1940's to the 1990's.-opposing team was the Kansas City Blades -2000's-
