Mine is a photo-based painting practice.
As usual, this series uses the human figure as a conceit to document contemporary society. The formal space might suggest a pedestrian situation, yet arrests the viewer with enthusiastic colour - a simple situation requiring reflection. They explore an every day event as a vehicle to study relationship ; the interaction of colours, masses, perceived realities, personal contact. Neither contorted nor imaginary, the translation to oil hinges on my interpretive evaluation of line and space and colour and balance. My interest is the artist's constant obsession with observation and reconstructing a given situation for an audience. Complex interactions are reflected in stark painterly contrasts.
I hint at a subtext, but the observer will project his own story into the image ... an UNDISCLOSED NARRATIVE is presented.
I want to encourage the contemplation of the extraordinary nature of the ordinary.
