We know there were Sullivans in Kings Cove in the very early 1800's , but the first record of my Great great Grandfather, Patrick Sullivan is that of his marriage to Anne Leane of Place Cove which is recorded in the RC Kings Cove parish records in 1843.
My father told me that Partick came from Roscommon in Ireland where the Sullivan's were noted as Sheep stealers. In Kings Cove he was known as "Paddy the Fly", because of his love of molasses and that he had a dog that would steal any food that he could find.
Paddy was known as an "Irish Youngster" a term used to describe young people who came out to Newfoundland as workers or servants who were committed to work for an employer for a specific period of time.
We do not know why he came to Kings Cove and suspect, but cannot prove that he may have been related to some of the Sullivan's who were already established there.
