The MacTavish Clan

(Hmmm, I'll have to find a tartan backround....)

The Cast: (In order of appearance)

Sandy MacTavish

The oldest bro. One of his latest quests is to find and tell every lawyer joke available. ie What is brown and black and looks good on a lawyer? A Doberman!  The other is to figure out how to retire somewhere warm.

Other than dissing lawyers, some of his past times are: Poker, Bridge, Golf and Darts to name a few.

N.M.(Nancy) MacTavish

The oldest sis. (she hates that word ;-)). One of her latest passions is golf and she is apparently pretty good. Nancy recently retired (2nd time) from a telecommunications company so that she could persue more meaningful GOALS. She is involved with Planned Parenthood and is enjoying the challenges of passing on life skills and the knowledge that allows others to enjoy a healthier life and to be able to make better and happier life choices. More power to them!

Nancy will be putting the "Quest for a lower handicap" on hold for the first half of '99.  She has taken a position in the North to help the Native Council organize for self-government and I don't think they'll be doing too much golfing.   Especially since they have just started getting about 45 minutes of sunshine a day.   When we saw her at Christmas before she headed up there, she was looking forward to the experience.

J.A.(Joan) MacTavish

The younger (but still older than me) sis. Joan has finished her BA Degree at Carleton (with distiction) and has now moved on to St. Paul's University to persue a Master's degree.  She is looking towards a position in palliative care when completed.  When she's not in class, reading, studying, writing papers or exams, she likes to work on miniatures. Small detailed furniture, appliances, decorative china pieces or flowers that will someday decorate that doll house mansion she has been 'architecting' in her mind for the past decade or so. No doubt I'll get recruited to do some wiring or building when it finally comes to life. No problem.

W.R.(Bill) MacTavish... Me!

The last of the four chillun. Either the folks finally got it right, or they didn't want to take any more chances. I work for a small computer consulting firm so therefore it follows that one of my interests is computers. More generally, I like gadgets of most shapes, sizes and descriptions. I have several interests/hobbies, most of which involve gadgetry of some sort or other, and most of which I still have. Can you spell pack rat? I have been racing R/C cars for about 13 years now. I try to get to the annual Indoor Championships in Cleveland each November. It is an adventure that I look forward to every year. Aside from the cars, I have several boats in various states of completion. Some in running condition and some in an almost permanent construction stage. They are mostly electric and under 30".  Last Fall I finally got the nerve to build and fly an electric powered glider that I had purchased about 9 years ago.  After going to a local radio controlled Fun-Fly, I was prodded into getting started by a friend of mine.  I got 31 flights in before the weather turned against us.  That's 31 flights, with only 2 crashes that required a trip home to rebuild.  I'm working on a new one this Winter and looking forward to the Spring flying weather.

In the Summer I spend quite a bit of time at my friend Mike's where we generally get burned to a crisp boating and tubing on the Rideau River. You'll find some pictures on the Activities page. In the Fall and Winter, I move indoors and play darts on the Carleton Dart League. It's a mixed league with the objective of having more fun than winning. At least that's what we keep telling ourselves since for the last three years we have finished in last or next to last place. Oh well, it's an excuse to get out once a week during the winter and have a beer and some fun.

In December of 1997, I followed through on an old interest in woodworking.  I saw an article on making boxes, and since I have always liked wooden boxes of almost any description, I decided to give it a try.  You can see some of my work at another page http://www.dilkie.com/mactavish .

C.I.(Chuck) MacTavish

Chuck is Sandy's son and is now residing in Sarasota, Florida. Chuck got married to Kasey on August 30th.1997. I was honoured to be their official photographer. They proceded to pack up their things and off they went to Florida at the end of October. Man! It seems like only a couple of years ago that he was just learning to ride his bike. Now he's 25, married and got a job he likes in Florida. He's making this ol' uncle look downright irresponsible. He and Kasey have a gorgeous chocolate Lab named Oliver. He (Ollie, not Chuck) is now old enough to have grown some brain cells and has calmed down some since he was a pup. Apparently, Ollie is enjoying the fresh fish and walking on the beach with Chuck and Kasey.

We all miss them. Lots. You'll find a wedding picture on the Stags, Weddings and Other Parties page.

E.K.M.(Emily) Whitehead

Emily is Joan's daughter and the youngest of our 'immediate' family. She is the youngest but she is not the shortest. She is 15 now and has been taller than her Grandmother (our Mom) since she was about eight. This is not to say that Emily is being sought after by the Bulls or Pistons, it is more that Mom was sought after to play one the elves in all the Christmas plays put on until she graduated from College. Anyway, Emmy has been busy herself these days. She is now in High School and like, has all the like, usual teenage like, interests.  Music, boys, clothes, boys, music, jewelry, music and of course, boys.    There are some pictures of Emily 'enjoying' her first ride on the tube on the boating page. The amazing part is, she still talks to me! Well, sometimes.

Well, that about does it for the brief family biography. Of course, if you know us, you probably knew all this anyway. If you didn't, you probably didn't want to know any of this. Too late now!
